Letters, in chronological order

Read the full preserved English texts alongside the original letter images, with associated envelopes and postal surfaces where the evidence supports a link.

163 chronology entries are not a count of 163 distinct complete letters. Contributions, fragments, a historical English note, copies, and alternate editions remain distinguished. Date ranges support sorting; they do not establish an exact writing date.

All search words must occur within one chronology entry. Quotes require a phrase. Original-source and reviewed-edition filenames are searchable as metadata. Linked-profile filters use verified source relationships; a person's appearance in a letter never by itself proves a canonical identity or a writer/recipient role.

The same reviewed correspondence snapshot used by the Family Archive, with source-faithful previews. No live synchronization. Source links retain their existing permissions. Original gaps, missing sides and uncertain joins remain visible; 163 chronology entries are not 163 complete letters. Rights remain source-specific.

SOURCE READINGS · REVIEWED 11 OCTOBER 2026

Postal faces & historical English versions

Read the surviving source surfaces alongside the existing letters. Historical English versions are preserved in their own wording, separately from the modern German-based translations.

The existing correspondence transcriptions and English texts have been checked for missing passages. No substantive English passage was found missing from the readable transcribed text. Separate readings preserve the historical English versions and postal faces. Unreadable words, cropped or covered writing, missing sides and unproven page joins remain labelled.

Loading source readings…

These are source-surface readings, not new letter events or independent corroboration. Original files and access stay unchanged. Translator, copying direction and creation dates of the historical English versions remain unknown. Physical enclosures and uncertain joins remain qualified.
